I don't think that was the intention at all. Even so, it's becoming self-fulfilling prophecy when the City Council makes statements like this, then goes on to prove they can't govern themselves.

yes the "symbolism" is that Detroit can't govern itself, but if the council members really think it's about race (and aren't just using that as an excuse) then they need to have a look at their resume.
you can't get mad at something when it's true, the only value in that is the irony. Detroit does need an overseer. The mayor is a crook and the council are looooney.
I heard her comments on the news last night and had the same thought.
The other thing that bothers me is they said that they were being rushed to a decision, but the proposal had been kicked around for about 6 months. Multiple council members had seen and asked for adjustments. The thing was revised multiple times. The deadline was midnight on Saturday, so...what...they can't work a little overtime to ensure the Zoo gets 4 million dollars from the state.
They're just playing political power games with Kwame & the State government. The city and all it's services, resources, and citizens are just along for the ride...so come watch the circus...and wait to see what the next response will be from the Asshole in the center ring...oh, by the way it'll probably cost the entire Metro Detroit Area another cultural center.
