I wonder if elevator entrapment is covered by travel insurance? Doesn't matter, though -- we were compensated with a fruit basket and champagne.
Interesting:
Mild dehydration & half an hour of our time is worth a bottle of Salton Brut, 2 pounds of grapes, half a pound of strawberries, 2 mangos, 3 kiwis, two apples, 4 plums, and two of a fruit I am unable to identify. Lovely gesture, but if I could speak Portuguese I'd be at the corner grocery trying to barter the fruit for more champagne.
Brazilian smokes, btw, are worth the comical charades required to purchase them. They're also supposed to be enviably cheap, but not speaking the language means I paid a New York City price and then some.

You also come across really cool in print.
"...the Coopers stayed in Paris another night, flew to Milan, and caught a train to Florence..."
Oh yeah. Made me think of 'An Affair to Remember.' *swoon*

Take the fruit basket and champagne BACK into the elevator, and make that space your Pompeii brothel room, Z. Position XXIV. Stretch first.
